Privacy policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
This notice describes account information, optional location features and sharing in RoamQuest at www.roamquest.app.
RoamQuest is operated by Jorben De Meerleer, established in Belgium. Privacy questions and data requests go to roam.quest.app@gmail.com.
1. Account and travel data
RoamQuest uses your email and sign-in information to identify your account and keep you signed in. Your profile includes a username, country and city, and a profile photo if you add one. Signing in with Google or Lovable involves that provider’s sign-in service.
Your saved activity includes accepted and completed quests, XP, trophies, bucket list items, journal stories and photos, friend requests, friendships and challenges. These records support your progress, travel journal and social features.
2. Saved progress and device storage
Account progress is synced when you sign in. RoamQuest also uses browser storage for local progress, sign-in state and device preferences such as sound. Signing out is not the same as deleting your account or shared posts. Clearing browser storage can remove local preferences and unsynced progress.
3. Optional location features
- Nearby quests: when you use the location feature and allow your browser’s location request, device coordinates are used to find your area and suggest local quests. You can switch nearby quests off and revoke location permission in your browser or device settings.
- Quest posts: the “Quest locations” setting controls whether the completed-quest composer offers location sharing. The additional “Share where you completed it” checkbox lets you include the resolved city and country in a post. The post’s location field contains city and country, not device coordinates.
- Profile location: the country and city you represent are separate from device location. Their display is controlled by “Country & city” in Settings.
Turning a location option off does not remove a city or country already included in an existing post. Review or delete previous shares if you no longer want that information visible.
4. Community feed and audiences
When you post, RoamQuest records your message, attached photos or adventure, author identity and chosen audience. Likes and comments are associated with the account making them and are shown alongside posts to people who can view the post.
- Public · Everyone: a public post can be viewed by people who are not signed in. Explicitly public sharing can make that post and its attachment visible even when other profile sections are private.
- Friends only: access depends on accepted friendship and your privacy choices. Sending a friend request does not by itself create a friendship.
- Profile audiences: Settings offers Public, Friends and Only me choices for Quests, Bucket list and Shared posts, plus controls for profile details and restricted access.
Choose an audience before sharing. Other people may save or screenshot anything they can view; changing visibility or deleting a post cannot retrieve copies they have already made. Avoid posting sensitive personal details or someone else’s photo without their permission.
5. Journal and shared copies
Your personal journal is separate from the community feed. Sharing a completed quest can copy the story and photos into the matching journal entry. Deleting the community post does not delete that saved journal entry; manage the journal copy separately.
6. Services used by location features
Nearby quest requests use OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service to resolve an area from coordinates, then send the destination and selected interests through Lovable’s AI service to generate suggestions. Optional quest-post location lookup uses Google Maps through Lovable’s connection service to resolve city and country.
This notice does not describe these services’ separate retention practices or provide a complete list of hosting and sign-in providers.
7. Your controls and data requests
You can change profile and audience settings, remove your posts, manage journal entries, remove friend access and change browser location permission. Review existing public shares as well as your current defaults.
RoamQuest does not currently offer a self-service account deletion or data export button. To ask what is stored about you, request a copy, or ask for your account and records to be deleted, email roam.quest.app@gmail.com from the address your account uses. The owner aims to reply within 30 days.
RoamQuest is run from Belgium, so the GDPR applies to the data described in this notice. You can ask for incorrect details to be corrected, object to a use of your data, or raise a concern with a data protection authority.
